In 2007, Ka self released his debut album, Iron Works. Notably, he rose to the position of Captain in the Fire Department of New York, a position he occupies to this day. For 10 years Ka existed in a state of forced complacency regarding his musical ambitions, committing to civilian life. Ka was one of many victims of a musical climate governed by record labels, and after failing to gain even a semblance of success, he turned his back on hip hop. Once again, Ka progressed no further than an unheralded demo tape, featuring the semi-cult-classic "2 Roads Out The Ghetto". The next step in Ka's journey came in the form of Nightbreed, a duo he formed with fellow rapper and close friend Kev in 1998. After Natural Elements failed to obtain a record deal, Ka left the group, feeling personal guilt regarding this failure. Ka was briefly part of the Natural Elements Crew, his most notable appearance coming on "I Mean This". Through much of the 90s, Ka existed on the peripheries of the hip hop world, his search for recognition proving mostly futile. Kaseem Ryan, or Ka, hails from the Brownsville neighbourhood of Brooklyn.
